March 14th is National Potato Chip Day.

Potato Chips are America's #1 snack food. But, its not just a snack food. Its the potato of choice for many lunchtime and dinner meals. Regular (or plain) potato chips are by far the most popular. Other popular flavors are barbecue, sour cream & onion, oil & vinegar, and ranch.

In the summer of 1853, Native American George Crum was employed as a chef at an elegant resort in Saratoga Springs, New York. One dinner guest found Crum's French fries too thick for his liking and rejected the order. Crum decided to rile the guest by producing fries too thin and crisp to skewer with a fork. The plan backfired. The guest was ecstatic over the browned, paper-thin potatoes, and other diners began requesting Crum's potato chips. This information was found at http://www.ideafinder.com.

ONe of the best known slogans was created for the potato chip by Lay's, "betcha you can't eat just one."

Today is the last day to turn in your nomination for Corona's "Celebrating Neighbors" Award for this quarter.

The "Celebrating Neighbors" Awards Program was created to recognize individual Corona residents that demonstrate a commitment to building strong neighborhood relationships.

To nominate a neighbor, simply complete and submit a Celebrating Neighbors" Awards Nomination Form. Nominations are accepted each quarter and are due on the following dates:

• 1st Quarter: March 31
• 2nd Quarter: June 30
• 3rd Quarter: September 30
• 4th Quarter: December 31

One award winner will be chosen per quarter and recognized at a subsequent Corona City Council meeting.

This Saturday March 29th from 10am - 4pm friends and family will be holding a fund raiser for Kevin Russell.

Kevin Russel is a great father, husband and friend and needs our help. A former President of the Norco chamber of Commerce and a Corona-Norco Unified School District PTA Council member.

He recently had a serious heart-attack. To help Kevin, his wife and 12 year old son, in this crucial time, we invite you to attend a fund raiser held in his benefit at Beacon Hill Gallery in Norco. There will be a silent Auction, Raffels, Food and several vendor booths.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department trained nealry 90 drivers on the trash haulers' Waste Watch Program. THis gives the Sheriff's department an extra set of eyes and ears.

This program will give drivers the knowledge and confidence to help law enforcement.

With the spike in foreclosures in the community they asked that they keep an eye on those homes. These foreclosed homes are being broken into and thieves are taking appliances such as washers and dryers.

Daniel Ayala, who has been driving around Corona and Norco for nearly 18 years, said the training informed him about the proper steps to take, as well as what numbers to call in an emergency.
